ABOUT ME
I was introduced to the Pilates method after dealing with acute low back pain, tight shoulders, and a weak stiff neck. All results from spending long, grueling hours in front of a computer day in and day out as a graphic designer.

After a year of strengthening deep core muscles, fine-tuning alignment and posture, staying centered, I knew it was time to follow a new path of self-care and teach others from her experience.

Within a year I left the corporate world and began my pursuit and passion for Pilates. I started as an Apprentice trainer in 2011 and, a couple of years later became a fully certified instructor! This was the best choice I have ever made! I felt so much happier, healthier and more in control of my life in in my 40s than I ever did in my 20s.

My biggest enjoyments are when I see students reach that “ah-ha” moment, where they understand and feel the correct muscle group engaging and it’s that moment that they take from their sessions and apply to their daily living patterns, so they may move through life pain-free.

I have been practicing Pilates for over 15 years. I was referred to Carrie when my Pilates studio was closed due to the coronavirus.
Carrie adapted quickly to the constraints of on-line instruction. Most importantly she listened carefully to my individual needs (scoliosis and aging) and designed a weekly practice that was safe yet challenging and fun. I appreciate Carrie’s knowledge, creativity, and enthusiasm for the practice.

I take Gentle Pilates from Carrie at least twice a week. I think it is funny that she calls it gentle because it is a class that can be as challenging as you want to make it. Carrie always gives options to “level up” to make an exercise more difficult if you choose to do so. At the beginning of each class, Carrie checks in with each participant to see how “they are doing”. Often times, people have injuries or have had surgery, and she will suggest options so that they do not hurt themselves doing a particular movement.

Her classes have a great flow, and she explains how to do a movement carefully and with clarity. She builds up to each exercise with stretches to warm up the body so that you are ready for the next movement. By the end of her class you feel stretched and refreshed. I love her classes, I look forward to them and I enjoy her teaching style.

Over fifty years—I’m now almost 70—I’ve taken every conceivable kind of
exercise or movement class: jazz dance, ballet, tap, salsa, aerobics, tai chi, yoga, Zumba, weight training, and Pilates. Carrie Ferguson is absolutely the best instructor I’ve had in all of that time. I’ve been in her gentle pilates class for over 3 years and am now stronger than I was 25 years ago.
At the beginning of each class, Carrie checks in with each participant about
ongoing physical issues and new problems they may be experiencing.
Then she customizes the exercises for those with limitations and also adds
movements that will help. I’m always amazed that she can keep all this in
her head while she’s actively leading a class that provides a full body
workout.

Carrie is fun and lively, but she is also, wise, observant, and thorough. She has the unique gift of helping you become strong while keeping you safe from injury. She explains well and monitors carefully to make sure everyone is doing the movements correctly. She manages this in remote classes as well as in-person ones.
